The Ida V. Moffett School of Nursing was founded as a hospital diploma program in 1922. In 1955, it was the first program in Alabama accredited by the National League for Nursing [NLN]. The program transferred to Samford University in 1973 following a merger with Baptist Medical Centers to offer associate and baccalaureate degrees. Currently, the Ida V. Moffett School of Nursing offers programs that meet the requirements for the bachelor of science in nursing degree and the master of science in nursing degree.

Wallace College of Nursing and Health Sciences offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree, which enables the program graduate to apply to take the registered nurse (RN) licensure examination. Students begin the nursing program by taking academic, prerequisite courses (see plan of study below); a separate application is filed to request admission into the clinical portion (upper division) of nursing. Students are admitted to the upper division of nursing in the spring and fall of each year.
